Top Speed

Anyone got an idea of what the top speed really is?
Mine will do at least 98mph... err I mean 70mph as I would never speed
Would just be very interested. BTW it was very smooth at "70" I just ran out of road.

I have done 160 km (99mph) but for a short stretch cause like yourself CCPhill, I ran out of road. It was very smooth. Not sure if I could have pushed it more, but that was plenty fast enough for me.

I've only been able to get it up that high on a downhill. If it's on level ground, it seems to top out around 105-ish. Admittedly, I don't try to do that often. Just a few times.

But but but... It's such a SLOW boring bike....

Seems pretty darn fast to me. Not much on 4 wheels can leave the line as quick, and anything over about 80 is flirting with legal issues.
Gizmo and CCPhill like this.

Not only that, but the fuel economy suffers a LOT. I know some of you have posted your fuel economy in past threads- I only get around 60mpg because most of my commute is highway with speeds around 80. In fact, I've noticed the higher the speed, the more drastic the drop in mpg.

The amount of power it takes to move the air out of the way increases exponentially with speed. However, even 60mpg is great for a 700cc bike. So many motorcycles get abysmal mileage. Still, keeping the bike at more - um - legal speeds can increase the economy. I travel mostly rural roads in the 40-50mph and keeping my average above 70mpg hasn't been an issue even with the hills.

The laid back low design seems to provide for better mileage at speed than most of the NC series of bikes. So, in that regard, the NM4 is a great choice.
